To all undergraduate students and the entire McGill community,
Between March 28th and March 31st, 17% of students (3,933) participated in a to democratically vote on whether the 鶹Ʒ should go on Strike. 72% of those students (2,731) voted yes, while 28% (1,061) voted no.
The approved mandate of the Strike clarified that the actions it endorsed would remain peaceful and voluntary.
However, recent reports and evidence have emerged of antagonistic activities occurring on campus by those claiming to be affiliated with the strike, including, but not limited to, classroom disruptions, vandalism, and violent altercations, particularly within the McConnell Engineering Building.
These actions are neither in the spirit of the strike motion ratified by the 鶹Ʒ membership nor the 鶹Ʒ’s internal policies and regulations. As stated in the 鶹Ʒ’s previous message on April 2nd, the 鶹Ʒ does not endorse these actions.
As members of a shared community, we have a responsibility to make sure that our campus is a place where we all can feel safe to learn and express our views; however, due to the ongoing actions of this group of actors— it is clear that this responsibility has not been upheld.
Strike activities within the University Centre have remained peaceful and respectful, and we urge that students who wish to protest do so peacefully and that it remains voluntary.
